Had this thought recently. I am surrounded by people who used to be one way, but now they’re completely different… Just like Mary Magdalene utters in The Chosen. They’ve been changed… New creations from the inside out.

Most of them, just looking at them today, you’d never know they were once atheists, new agers, gang members, liars, manipulators, thieves, addicts, schizophrenic, suicidal, predators, drug dealers, prostitutes, etc. I could place myself on this list too. Sometimes it makes me chuckle when someone apologizes for saying a curse word like it’s the first time my virgin ears ever heard it, and God forbid it ever escaped my mouth… But it also honors me and makes me praise God for what He’s done for me and in me.

But what really got me thinking is how people who don’t know this side of God don’t always know how to love the new creations because of what they once were… And very often those are the ones with the best testimonies of God’s awesomeness. But some wouldn’t dare sit at the table with them and they’d call anyone who does crazy.

But isn’t that a similar walk to Jesus’ life on earth? Bewildered by his choice in disciples already, they’d say… How could he sit at the table with those sinners? What kind of prophet doesn’t know the kind of people he’s sitting with? Do you know the kind of woman you’ve let anoint you?

While the world saw them for their sins and their pasts, Jesus saw brokenness… Traumas… Lies… Ploys of the enemy to steer us away from love… And the only way to win these precious ones back was through a radical forgiveness, an unmerited grace… “He desires mercy and not sacrifice” was about love for one another through forgiveness for one another… Their sacrifices were selfish and not for others… Therefore, He became the ultimate sacrifice on our behalf.

Jesus is alive today and he works through us… And some of us are honored and overjoyed to sit at the table with the most sincere, loving, hungry-for-God sinners who have been deemed the worst… Because he inside of us can see their hearts and the broken world that has beat them up and lied to them… We were once in need of His radical, unmerited grace and it was freely given to us… Because of that, our lives were forever changed and we desire nothing else but to say, “He can do it for you too.”

Call us radical, crazy, illogical, or dumb… But they hated HIM for the same reasons long before they could us. 🙏❤️
