Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven… Give your gifts in private, and your Father, who sees everything, will reward you… when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

Matthew 6:1,4,6

Be careful that the things you do behind closed doors aren’t the opposite of what Jesus instructed.

Sometimes we have it twisted. We hide our sins, our frustrations, our struggles. However, we showcase how well we’re doing or the good things we’re doing — going to church or doing an outreach, fake smiles and relationships. For who? All the while, behind closed doors we’re abusive, mean, judgemental, gossiping, riddled with depression, making choices that hurt us in isolation…Who are you more concerned with, people or God?

Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.

Galatians 6:2

How can we carry each other’s burdens if we keep the burdens secret?

Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.

James 5:16

How can we pray for one another if we don’t confess our sins, if we keep our struggles a secret?

The time is coming when everything that is covered up will be revealed, and all that is secret will be made known to all. Whatever you have said in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have whispered behind closed doors will be shouted from the housetops for all to hear!

Luke 12:2-3
